Context
This was a group project I did a while ago While not a technical build, it pushed us to explore the intersection of fintech, machine learning, and Web3 in a meaningful way. It also challenged me to think critically about open-ended product definition, especially in emerging, high-risk domains like crypto.
The Challenge
At the time, crypto fraud was dominating headlines. From rug pulls to fake tokens, retail investors were losing millions. Our goal was to design a product that could help everyday users assess the risk of ICOs and other digital assets, ideally without needing deep crypto knowledge. The solution had to be scalable, trustworthy, and easy to use.
Approach:
- Proposed a dual-layer system: centralized algorithmic ratings + decentralized community predictions
- Helped define use cases for different user personas, from casual investors to crypto enthusiasts
- Designed a monetization model combining freemium subscriptions and utility tokens (C-Coins)
- Identified key risk signals (e.g., locked liquidity, whitepaper red flags, wallet activity) that could be used to train the algorithm
- Outlined roadmap sequencing: scrape data, train models, test predictions, integrate feedback, and build plug-ins for exchange sites
What I’m Proud Of
- Balanced vision with pragmatism: even with no engineering resources, we developed a detailed product concept, roadmap, and go-to-market plan
- Prioritized ethics: in a space filled with hype, we rooted the product in user education and social good
- Made ambiguity work for us: instead of freezing in the face of too many options, we got comfortable making assumptions and refining them over time
Reflections
This project reminded me that “too much freedom” can be as paralyzing as “too little.” Constraints drive focus. Still, I'm proud of how our team navigated that ambiguity and produced something thoughtful and grounded. CryptoCalibre wasn’t about shipping a real product—it was about imagining what responsible innovation could look like in one of the riskiest corners of tech. And I’d happily build on it again.
